Where do you want to go?

The best excursions in Tunisia
by region

From the Gulf of Tunis to the Zaghouan massif, every Tunisia excursion opens a window on a different world. Here are the four regions you can explore in a single day, leaving from your accommodation and back the same evening.

Cap Bon and Greater Tunis

An hour from Hammamet takes you to Cap Bon: the Punic city of Kerkouane listed by UNESCO, the Haouaria caves carved facing Sicily, and the 45 °C springs of Korbous. Further north, the Grand Tunis excursion links Sidi Bou Said, Carthage and the Tunis medina in the same day.

Centre: Dougga and El Jem

Dougga is the best-preserved Roman city in North Africa, UNESCO-listed, and Bulla Regia hides its underground villas, unique in the Roman world. In the centre, the El Jem amphitheatre and Kairouan bring together 35,000 Roman seats and the fourth holy city of Islam.

The Sahel and the villages

Port El Kantaoui, the UNESCO-listed medina of Sousse and the ribat of Monastir all fit into a single day on the Sahel. For something off the beaten track, the Berber route climbs to Zriba Loulia, a stone village abandoned in the 1960s, before Zaghouan and its Roman Water Temple.

When to go on your
excursion in Tunisia?

Tunisia is worth visiting all year round. Each season has its strengths depending on the region and the kind of Tunisia excursion you want. Here is when to go, and which day to book first.

Recommended

🌸

Spring

March to May 18 to 26 °C

The best window. Quiet sites, hills still green and long days. Ideal for Dougga and Bulla Regia, which are visited outdoors for four hours.

Dougga & Bulla Regia

Cap Bon

Berber villages

☀️

Summer

June to August 28 to 38 °C

High season on the coast. The Sahel and Friguia Park work best in the morning, before the heat. An 08:00 start is advised for all open-air sites.

Friguia Park

Greater Tunis

Recommended

🍂

Autumn

Sept to Nov 19 to 28 °C

The second-best window. Golden light, the sea still warm and fewer crowds. All seven excursions are pleasant at any hour of the day.

All 7 days

El Jem & Kairouan

Cap Bon

❄️

Winter

Dec to Feb 10 to 18 °C

Low season, so sites are almost empty and prices stable. Favour urban and covered visits: medinas, museums and the Great Mosque of Kairouan.
